Competing

The swimmers are all lined up
behind the blocks
The timers are ready
with their clocks

Three times the whistle blows
as the swimmers take their pose

"Take your mark"
is heard
The swimmers now take place
to fly off the block like a bird

A streamline all the way to the flags
Never past or else they'll lag

When the swimmers reach the wall, they do their flip
all is good but one slows down; the one in lane six

They sprint the next 25 meters
There legs as fast as egg beaters

The cheering gets louder from the teammates
as each one anxiously waits

The swimmers rush towards the end,
And the timers over the pool edge bend.

Lane three is first, next is lane one,
Then one by one the others are done.

Soon the cheers slowly diminish,
And the swim meet is now officially finished.
