Stunning Portraits

There are many different ways of creating a stunning portrait. Some are: playing with eye contact, shooting candidly, breaking the rules of composition, playing with light, and adding props:

Playing with eye contact includes one, looking off camera and two, looking within the camera frame. Looking off the camera means the persons' eyes looking at something not in the frame. Looking within the frame of the camera is when the subject is looking at something the view can see inside the frame.

Shooting someone candid means the photographer is shooting the subject doing something like working or playing. This is a good technique because sometimes portraits can seem posed and shooting candidly lets the subject be stunning in its own element.

Breaking the rules of composition can include the rule of thirds. Which is setting your subject more to one side. Lots of times portraits are dead on. Another way to break composition is to have the subject look at the camera dead on.

Playing with light includes using light in a way that emphasizes a feature on the subjects face. Another way of using light is using synch flash to create a wow factor.

Adding props is another way to create a stunning portrait. Adding a prop can give the subject a sense of place and story. It gives the person that is being photograph more depth to them that wouldn't be there without the prop.
